Cougar Deathfire EX Mouse and Keyboard Combo Review

There is little chance that you’ll pass the Deathfire EX box and not have it catch your eye. It’s extremely colourful and attention grabbing, showing off its primary forte whilst also advertising the other features it has up its sleeve.

  
  

The keyboard looks very similar to the Vantar in the design department, and that’s something that definitely counts as “a good thing”. The brushed aluminium finish keeps the main aesthetics looking more expensive than it is, whilst the combination of RGB lighting on the keys and a transparent ring around the outside of the keyboard that also lights up helps give the wow factor. This isn’t a keyboard for the shrinking violets amongst you. It’s loud, brash, bright, colourful. Removing the keycaps shows how much the switches are dominated by the transparency necessary to let the lighting work its magic in the best possible manner.

The key stalks are unique to this particular model so cannot be swapped out, but fortunately the font choice is subtle and the decision to put arrows on the WASD keys and WASD on the arrow keys might split opinion but we like it.

  
  
  

The mouse is a little simpler and, to some degree, less impressive. It’s a standard right-handed design with two side buttons and a button on the top to change the colours. You need to flip it onto its back to access the polling rate and DPI settings, but we think most of you will just put them to the stops and then forget about it.
