SteelSeries Aerox 3 Wireless and Wired Review

SteelSeries Aerox 3 Wireless Review

Up Close

The packaging for the SteelSeries Aerox 3 is very high quality. Often mice come in flimsy cardboard boxes because they have plastic shell internals, the Aerox 3 goes for sturdy cardboard and very carefully crafted internals.

The box for the Wireless model is just the tiniest bit bigger as it has more things to fit inside. Kudos to SteelSeries for not going down the cost-effective route and stuffing everything into the smaller package. With a detachable cable on the wired model they both look identical from the top.

First up the wired Aerox 3 has a Type-A to Type-C cable in beautifully soft braiding. You would imagine that the first thing you notice is the holes, but I promise you that the lack of weight is the most striking aspect.

57.5 grammes. Yeah, this is unbelievably light. We had a quick rummage through our memory banks and couldn’t think of another mouse that was anywhere near this light. Those holes must do something. If you think that it’s light because it’s wired though, hold on a moment.

The cable and mouse are aesthetically identical to it’s wired brother, with a Type-C receiver and an adaptor. Thanks to the Type-C fast charging capability the Aerox 3 will charge whilst you make a cup of tea, rather than wanting you to plug it in overnight, every night.

Even with a rechargable battery on board and all the attendant bits and bobs the SteelSeries Aerox 3 Wireless still weighs in under 69g. Or perhaps floats in. We’d expected the wireless one to significantly heavier, but 11g is ridiculously little.

On the underside we have plenty of diamond cutouts but with clear covers for letting the light out and keeping the detritus that collects on our mouse pads out. As we said in our introduction the Aerox 3 are IP54 certified, so there is no need to fear.

The design of both the mice is identical which is why we’re grouping them together today. The side buttons are just on the left and both are very thin, but have a satisfying feel which belies the low weight.
