Steelseries Apex 7 Keyboard Review

Introduction

We’ve recently reviewed the Steelseries Apex Pro and found ourselves utterly won over by its combination of aesthetics, ease of use, typing feel and solidity.

It had, at its heart, key switches with customisable actuation depth. Actuation depth is how far you need to press the key down before it registers. Whilst we found that the typing feel was identical to those switches which find themselves at the heart of 99% of the mechanical keyboard market – just with the added benefit of adjustable depth starting at something which would challenge a laptop keyboard for responsiveness – we understand that many people balk at plonking down two hundred notes on a technology which is new. You absolutely should, but maybe it’s a feature you don’t require.

What if you wanted the lighting, build quality, soft curves and spectacular OLED setup of the Apex Pro, but didn’t need adjustable switch actuation and wanted to save a few quid? That’s where the Apex 7 comes in. Available in both regular and TKL forms (tenkeyless, i.e missing the numpad) we have the full size Apex 7 in for review today. Still with the OLED display, still with RGB lighting and built like a bunker.
