ASUS PG65 Big Format Gaming Display – G-Sync HDR in a TV form factor
Earlier this year, Nvidia revealed what they called Big Format Gaming Displays (BFGDs), offering an enormous screen size of 65-inches while also delivering a resolution of 4K, HDR support and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, G-Sync and an Integrated Nvidia Shield Android TV.
ROG is showcasing their PG65 BFGD at Computex 2018, wowing onlookers with its high refresh rate, tearing free HDR gaming experience, delivering a gaming experience that is not available elsewhere. Nvidia says that these displays will release sometime in 2018.
What ASUS is offering here is a PC gaming monitor in a television-sized form factor, allowing those who enjoy gaming on giant screens to take advantage of PC technologies like 120Hz gaming and G-Sync technology, while also offering full HDR 10 compatibility using HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4.
ASUS’ Republic of Gamers Swift PG65 will ship with a 65-inch screen, a 120Hz refresh rate, support for the full DCI-P3 colour space and deliver users peak brightness levels of 1,000 NITS with a Direct-Lit Full-Array LED backlight. You can’t ask for much more from a display of this size.
Nvidia’s BFGD’s will offer users a built-in Nvidia Shield Android TV, providing support for HDR, Nvidia GameStream technology and video streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube, Hulu and content from the Google Play Store. Like other Shield Android TV devices, controllers can be used to play games on the set and this BFGD can also be used as a Google Assistant.
With support for Nvidia G-Sync, content playback is not an issue, with the ROG Swift PG65 being able to play all content at its native framerate, be it 23.976, 24, 25 or 30FPS/Hz formats. Interpolation or other framerate fudging technologies will not be used with this display.
