ASUS ROG STRIX 1000W Gold Aura White Edition PSU Review
Up Close
Up Close with ASUS’ ROG STRIX 1000W Gold Aura White Edition PSU
The first thing that we will say about this “White Edition” PSU is that it is more silver than white. Yes, there are a lot of white elements, but not enough for us to call it a “White Edition”. Yes, we are being a bit pedantic here, but we felt that all this silver colouring needs to be pointed out.
This PSU is protected by a sturdy aluminium frame and cooled with an Axial-tech fan. The ROG eye logo on the sides of this PSU are RGB illuminated, and controllable using this PSU’s strange Aura RGB port. ASUS, why didn’t you use a more standard connector here for RGB? It’s not like there isn’t standardised RGB connection standards that you could have used here? Strange cable choices aside, this is a great looking PSU.
Below we can see all of the standard PSU connections that you can expect. We have a white 12VHPWR connector, and we should note here that this connector uses “high-performance copper pins” for increased thermal conductivity. As such, these pins can run up to 12.28 degrees cooler than standard power connectors. Nice upgrade ASUS!
Unlike most high-end PSUs, ASUS’ new Aura White Edition PSU doesn’t ship with braided PSU cables. Instead, ASUS has opted to use “etched cables”. This gives these cables the look of braided cables without the possibility of these cables becoming frayed over time. These cables are also made to be bent more easily than standard PSU cables, making cable management a breeze.
