Conclusion – Do we like the Cooler Master X Silent Edge 1100?
It wasn’t long ago that a 1000w+ passively cooled power supply was impossible. Now, Cooler Master has made this dream a reality. This power supply promises to be silent and not to get caked in dust after years of use. If recent years have shown us anything, it’s that Cooler Master is here to innovate. Last year, we had their V1100 and V1300 SFX power supplies. Now, we have a fully passive 1100W power supply! One has to wonder what Cooler Master will have coming in 2025!
What we have here is a PSU that delivers top-level efficiency and absolute silence. We tested it at 1100W on our PSU tester, and the unit didn’t get overly hot to the touch under load. This PSU isn’t going to silently cook at the bottom of your system. Clearly, Cooler Master got the thermals right with their Silent Edge series. I guess that’s why this PSU has a 15-year warranty.
Things to remember about the Cooler Master X Silent Edge 1100
Like all passive PSUs, it’s recommended that the X Silent Edge is mounted in a “fan facing up” configuration. Yes, I know this PSU has no integrated fan, but you know what I mean. Those vents where a fan should be – those should be facing up! That way, this PSU’s natural airflow pattern will work optimally. Naturally, this PSU may not be well suited to all PC cases. That’s something that you will need to consider when going passive. Another thing to note is that users of this PSU can add a fan if they wish. Honestly, I don’t know why you would want to add a fan, but you can if you want to.
Overall, we are impressed with the X Silent Edge. It remains cool under full load without active cooling, which is crazy for an 1100W power supply. We have never seen something like this before, and it excites us about what Cooler Master will achieve in the future. Cooler Master’s PSU division is innovating, so their new X Silent Edge 1100 PSU deserves OC3D’s Innovation Award.
