DLSS – Image Quality and Performance

In Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War, Geforce RTX users can utilise four DLSS options, offering users several mixes of performance and image quality depending on their needs. 

Though our time playing Black Ops: Cold War, we have found that Nvidia’s DLSS Quality Mode offer PC gamers a better than 4K native image alongside a hefty performance increase while the game’s Balanced setting offers users larger performance gains and similar levels of quality as 4K native rendering. 

While Nvidia has boasted about their DLSS performance mode, we have found that this introduces some aliasing and a notable reduction in graphical fidelity over Call of Duty’s native 4K presentation. Image quality reduced further with Ultra Performance mode, though it is worth noting that this mode is designed to scale images to 8K, not 4K.

Based on the performance seen below, Nvidia users would be foolish not to enable DLSS in its Quality Mode, with performance-focused gamers achieving higher performance gains with Balanced mode with no major image quality sacrifices.
