Dying Light: The Beast hotfix fully addresses DLSS Frame Gen frametime issues
Hotfix 1.2.4 fixes Dying Light: The Beast’s DLSS Frame Generation Frametime spikes
Techland has released another hotfix for Dying Light: The Beast, bringing further improvements to the game’s parkour and gameplay. For Nvidia users, RTX users, this update brings improvements to Dying Light: The Beast’s implementation of DLSS Frame Generation, promising “smoother gameplay”.
Since we noted DLSS Frame Generation issues with the game at launch in our PC Performance Review, we decided to have a quick look at this update. Based on some quick benchmarks, we can see that Hotfix 1.2.3 (tested here) delivered much smoother frametimes than the game’s launch version when DLSS Frame Generation is used. With Update 1.2.4, framerates continue to become smoother. Looking at the 1st percentile frametimes below should highlight how much frametime consistency has improved.
The data below comes from a GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition at 4K high settings with DLSS set to performance mode with 4x Multi Frame Generation.
Frametime spikes fixes!
The graph above does highlight how much more consistent frametimes are, but it doesn’t showcase how Dying Light: The Beast’s hotfixes have impacted frametimes. The blue data below is from Dying Light: The Beast’s day-1 version. Green shows data from Hotfix 1.2.3, and orange showcases data from Hotfix 1.2.4.
Below, we can see that Hotfix 1.2.3 reduces the number of framerate spikes considerably, but doesn’t eliminate them entirely. Hotfix 1.2.4 practically eliminates these large framerate spikes, resulting in much smoother gameplay. In the L-Shape frametimes chart below, we can see how much higher 1st percentile frametimes are with Dying Light: The Beast’s older versions when DLSS Frame Generation is used.

Dying Light: The Beast now runs smoother on PC with DLSS Frame Generation
Techland should be commended for quickly addressing its DLSS Frame Generation frametime issues. We were one of the only websites to test the impact of update 1.2.3, and Techland has responded to this data and issued a fix. Now, DLSS Frame Generation Frametimes are incredibly smooth. If you use DLSS Frame Generation, Dying Light: The Beast should now feel much smoother.
Dying Light fans should expect more updates for The Beast very soon. The game still lacks its promised ray tracing support. Furthermore, Techland has promised future content additions for the game. We will look into this game again once its promised ray tracing patch lands.
