Gears 5 PC Performance Review & Optimisation Guide

Performance Scaling – Low, Medium, High & Ultra – 1080p & 1440p

When using ur trusty ASUS ROG Strix RX 580 and GTX 1060 graphics cards, we can see that Gears 5 can be fairly demanding game to play at 1080p, with both cards failing to achieve a solid 60FPS at Ultra Settings.

Moving down to High settings will push both graphics cards to 60 FPS average framerates, which based on our experiences will make the game run at 60 FPS on most occasions. For the most part, Gears 5’s performance is well above the minimum framerates that the in-game benchmark shows, aside from a few rare instances.

For Nvidia’s Geforce GTX 1060 and AMD’s Radeon RX 580, 1080p High settings are pretty much ideal for playing Gears 5.

If we crank things up to 1440p, things get a little trickier for our RX 580 and GTX 1060. Getting the game to run at a stable 60FPS at a native resolution of 1440p results in huge cuts to the game’s graphical fidelity.

Our recommendation is to run the game at a slightly reduced resolution scale at a mixture of Medium and High settings or to simply enable the game’s minimum framerate feature and set it to 60. This is assuming that you are unwilling to play Gears 5 at a locked 30FPS.
