Microsoft Flight Simulator PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

4K Performance – Is Flight Simulator the new Crysis?

At 4K, it becomes clear that Microsoft Flight Simulator is designed for future graphics cards. Even our RTX 2080 Ti sits well below average framerates of 60 FPS, and it is worth noting that this is at High-End settings, not Ultra. For our GPU tests were uses High settings to showcase higher framerates in a less CPU-limited scenario, as this will be more representative of what PC players should expect on today’s hardware.

For higher performance levels within Microsoft Flight Simulator, PC gamers will need stronger CPU and graphics hardware. That said, future game updates could also enable stronger system performance, be it through a DirectX 12 update which reworks the game on the CPU side or other updates which could make certain workloads more efficient.

With Microsoft planning to support Microsoft Flight Simulator for the next 10sh year, PC gamers should expect a lot of changes over time. Hopefully this means that this game will receive performance updates in the future, or PC hardware will evolve to better handle this game’s simulation workloads.
