Low temperatures are the cornerstone of smooth, consistent transfer rates. You can buy drives either bare or with a heatsink. Most modern motherboards are designed in such a way a pre-installed heatsink might be problematic. At least this graph shows if you need to pay close attention to airflow across the lower half of your motherboard.
