Kingston FURY Renegade G5 Review

Introduction

Any time you’re in the market for a new storage drive the brand of Kingston will be high in your consideration. Since storage went digital they have been pumping out high quality devices that are fast and reliable.

Reliability is always going to be a cornerstone of storage importance. If you’ve never had a drive die then you could become blasé about backing up. The reality is that all drives die eventually. So whilst it’s easy to look solely at the performance numbers new brands will shout about, going for an experienced brand can save you plenty of headaches.  Kingston very much tick that box. It’s easier to add speed to a reliable drive. Speaking of which, today’s review is their Fury Renegade G5.

The Kingston Fury range is right at the top end of their performance category. This Fury Renegade G5 model promises to max out your PCI Express 5.0 bandwidth. A bold claim and one we can’t wait to test. It’s available in three different capacities. We’ve got the 1TB model, yours for £182. One thing we’ll always be impressed about is how quickly we went from HDDs to SSDs to M.2s. It’s like the trip from Vinyl to CDs via tape. When they initially hit the market it felt like SSDs were the future. In the end they were a stepping stone to drives like this.

As always there is very little to discuss when it comes to NVMe storage. More than anything beside your processor, it’s how it goes that matters way more than aesthetics. The Kingston Fury Renegade G5 has a nicely designed heatspreader nonetheless. The needs of logos always mean the reverse side is cramped and less attractive.
