Small, but Mighty! – Crucial P310 M.2 2230 2TB SSD Review
Meet the Crucial P310 M.2 2230 SSD
Compact SSD Performance without compromise – Crucial makes big promises with their M.2 2230 P310 SSD
Crucial has today given the M.2 2230 SSD form factor a speed boost. The company’s new P310 SSD boasts top-tier PCIe 4.0 performance for compact devices. That should come as great news for users of portable gaming PCs like the ROG Ally, and compact devices that only support this SSD form factor. Microsoft Surface users rejoice!
With sequential read speeds of up to 7,100 MB/s, Crucial has claimed up to 40%Â faster performance than other PCIe Gen 4 M.2 2230 SSDs. Crucial is raising the speed limits of this SSD form factor, and its time for us to put these claims to the test. Let’s get started!
Features and Battery Life
The Crucial P310 utilises Phison’s new E27 4-channel DRAM-less SSD controller with Micron 232-layer 3D NAND. This enables this new SSD to deliver ultra-fast SSD performance that approaches the limits of PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots. This makes the Crucial P310 the fastest M.2 2230 sized SSD on the market, at least at the time of writing.
- Sequential read/writes up to 7,100/6,000MB/s
- Random read/writes up to: 1M/1.2M IOPS
- Capacity: 1TB, 2TB
- Endurance: 220TBW (1TB), 440TBW (2TB)
- MTTF: 1.5M hours
- Generation: PCIe 4.0 NVMe technology
- Form factor: M.2 (2230)
- Warranty: 5-year limited
With this SSD, Crucial promises top tier SSD performance without compromises. In terms of battery life, this SSD offers users a similar battery life to Western Digital’s slower SN770M 2TB SSD. With the P310, Crucial’s promising users a performance upgrade without a battery life downgrade.
Crucial P310 Rated Speeds
Today, most high-end M.2 2230 SSDs have maximum sequential read speeds of 5,000 MB/s. That has been the norm since the release of devices like the ROG Ally and Valve Steam Deck. Now, thanks to Crucial, the speed limits of this SSD form factor have been raised. With the P310, Crucial’s delivered sequential read speeds of up to 7,100 MB/s. That’s a huge speed boost.
Moving onto write performance, this SSD promises sequential speeds of up to 6,000 MB/s. That’s a crazy high speed for such a compact SSD. It wasn’t long ago that these were the speeds of the highest-end M.2 2280 SSDs, drives that are more than double the size of the 2230 P310.
Crucial P310 Pricing
The P310 is now available in the US and Europe at the below prices. These prices are fairly competitive with other high-end M.2 2230 SSDs, though it is worth remembering that this SSD is in a class of its own in terms of raw sequential speeds (at least at the time of writing).
