ASUS ROG NUC 970 Review

Storage Performance

SSD Performance

ASUS has supplied their ROG NUC with a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, and it is fast. It’s more than fast enough for any modern gaming workload or any other workload that users should throw at a mini PC like this. Be it for gaming, video editing, or 3d modelling, this SSD is fast enough for common use.

Just to test the storage potential of this system, we gave UL Benchmarks’ 3DMARK DirectStorage Feature Test a spin. With DirectStorage, the performance of this system’s SSD increased by almost 200%. In other words, this system’s SSD was almost three times faster when DirectStorage was utilised. Hopefully, games will soon start using this feature properly, as it would be interesting to see what developers could achieve with these storage speeds.
