Anyone else think that the box looks like a Death Star? Is that deliberate? Are we just swept up in Star Wars fever? The eagle eyed amongst you might spot that the box looks like it has been around the block a few times. More on that later.

No your eyes do not deceive you. No we didn’t sneak a mirror into the shot. This really does come with two power bricks and an adaptor that combines the two into one big lump of juice to charge the Titan. We’ve seen SLI laptops before that didn’t come with this, nor did we feel that they needed them. Isn’t the point of a laptop that you’re knowingly sacrificing desktop performance for mobile ability? This instantly negates that concept of easy portability.

The MSI chassis is very familiar and always looks the part with its brushed black finish and red accents. Knowing it was a SLI laptop we were expecting it to weigh a ton, but it’s actually relatively light at only 4.1KG. Okay nobody is going to confuse it for their phone, but considering the specifications it’s much lighter than it might have been.

As befits a model boasting the Titan nomenclature, the GT73VR has plenty of connectivity options. We have RJ45 LAN, mini DisplayPort, HDMI, Thunderbolt/USB 3.1, as well as five USB 3.0 ports and the usual selection of audio jacks. There is an awful lot of room to help disperse the hot air too.

There are three different displays available in the options for the GT73VR Titan. Our review sample is equipped with the 4K display rather than the 1080P or 1080P/120Hz offerings. There is a high quality anti-reflection coating which we’ve attempted to demonstrate by pointing one of our photography lamps at it. You can see how well the light is diffused.

At the business end of the Titan we find all the elements that are so familiar to us from previous MSI laptops. A full RGB Steelseries keyboard is matched by a very responsive trackpad with separate buttons. The controls (power, turbo fan etc) are on the right rather than at the top, but with the aluminium chassis it all looks extremely high quality. You can even change the colour of the light around the trackpad if you so wish.
