Conclusion

There’s so much to enjoy about the PCSpecialist Necron Pro R.

One thing that’s been a constant in our reviews of PCSpecialist systems is their exceptional hardware choice and high build standards. Regardless of how much money you have in your budget, you can be certain that you’ll get a rig that is both powerful for the money and built to an exacting level of detail regardless of how much it cost. Of course at a certain end of the market there are limited choices. We’ve seen an awful lot of systems between the £800 and £1300 mark, and nearly all had identical CPU cooling, cases and PSUs. It’s just the nature of the beast.

Spending more, such as the £2599 asking price for the Necron Pro R, automatically makes us excited to see what they’ll do. Without such tight budgetary limitations the person whose job it is to select the specifications must have felt like we all do on a Friday afternoon. Suddenly a world of possibility opens up. With the Necron Pro R they’ve really made the most of every penny. The Lian-Li 011D Evo case gives a strong first impression. It’s a thing of beauty. Lots of cooling options, loads of glass to show off your lighting, easy to cable manage. A total stunner.

Inside the use of the ASUS TUF motherboard continues to be a wise choice. It’s all the motherboard you actually need, with loads of connectivity options and enough Amperage to power any processor. Going with the Ryzen 9 9900X3D is almost a no-brainer at this point. They’re wildly popular as the basis for a gaming rig, and the sales figures reflect that. With a system around this price you also want it to be a good all-rounder, and 12C24T @ 5.3 GHz ensures that it will merrily complete any task you ask of it.

Those X3D letters really make the difference though, and every processor in that range we’ve tested shows what a clever idea AMD had. The 3D V-Cache genuinely gives you extra gaming performance. Here in the 9900X3D guise it helps the RTX 5080 fly. Not that the Nvidia card requires much help in that department, being ridiculously powerful. We know the RTX 5090 sits above it in the Nvidia range, but the reality is that the RTX 5080, as you saw in our 4K gaming benchmarks, can run any game you name at maximum settings. Why pay more?

All those elements are the delicious cake of the Necron Pro R. The huge amount of ARGB lighting and blisteringly fast Samsung NVMe M.2 drive are the icing on said cake. If you’re in the market to see all that a modern gaming PC has to offer then the PCSpecialist Necron Pro R is a perfect choice and wins our OC3D Performance Award.
