PCSpecialist Necron Pro R Review

Up Close

As always with a PCSpecialist rig you get all the extra screws and cables you’d own should you have built it yourself from separate components. Unusually, because we have a posh graphics card we get a mouse mat.

One of the benefits to having a system that costs a little more than the normal ones we review, you get a nicer case. In this particular instance you get the incredible Lian Li 011D Evo, one of our favourite cases. Plenty of room, gorgeous build quality, loads of cooling potential.

The back view shows off the depth of the case. If you’ve ever felt hiding your PSU is a problem, dual chamber cases are the answer. With the Lian-Li 011D Evo you have drive storage and the power supply behind the motherboard, with plenty of airflow in the “main” chamber.

We spoke in our intro about not spending needlessly, and we think this view expresses this concept perfectly. Even the most peripheral heavy user won’t run out of USB ports. Additionally with Wi-Fi 7 you’ve got some very fast networking on offer.

All PCSpecialist systems come with plenty of packing, both external and internal, to ensure your expensive purchase arrives in perfect condition. Obviously we just test them and send them back, which is why the tape and film is still in place. We will say that we’ve reviewed 50 or more PCS rigs, and never had a single one arrive with any damage at all. A flawless setup.

Internals

Taking the side panel off, screwless thanks to the 011D Evo design, and removing the packing and we can see the Necron Pro R in all its glory. With a 360mm AIO, 3 120mm fans at the floor, 3 in the side and a single exhaust, airflow is not a problem. Given that we’re going to be running a Ryzen 9 9900X3D flat-out high airflow is vital.

Here it is in all its glory. You can see how carefully the cables have been routed, as neatly as possible. Additionally with a window this big then having a lot of RGB is a great way to show off your aesthetic choice. The PCS FrostFlow AIO has a RGB pump cover, and all the PCSpecialist fans are ARGB too. The side fans are Lian-Li’s infinity design with just an edge ARGB.

Naturally with a meaty gaming rig the graphics card is the most important thing. It’s the most ‘spend more, get more’ performance influencing piece of hardware you can buy. In this case we’ve got the Palit Gaming Pro version of the RTX 5080. They still might not be the first brand you think of, but we’ve never had a card from that didn’t out-perform its price tag. With three intake fans pointed straight at it you can be sure that the card will give you every frame it can.
