Since RGB lighting first came on the scene there has been a rapid evolution of the aesthetics of our systems. It has almost been a race between manufacturers to come up with the best solution. If, like us, you enjoy keeping up with the cutting edge of technology then it is perfectly possible that your current system has a broad range of components to try and utilise the latest advances in RGB lighting.
The ROG Rig we’ve put together for this is pretty much a ‘stop and take stock’ setup. The ASUS product range has exploded in recent years and the ROG brand is no exception, now capable of delivering almost every component you need to put together a fast gaming setup. So if you start from a blank slate and go all in on the Republic Of Gamers brand and newest AMD products you end up with a system like this. One which looks the bees knees, the mutts nuts. With all the hardware working together you can have a wholesale lighting effect without compromise. The extra front panel lighting from the three glass panels on the ROG Helios really shines and is almost the focal point for your setup. However, if you choose to look through either of the glass side panels you’ll also enjoy how good the cable management possibilities are and how uniform the lighting experience is. The Ryujin cooler does much to aid this, covering the CPU area fully with a design which is perfectly matched the Maximus Hero whilst also keeping the Ryzen 7 3800X and VRMs cool. This is further enhanced by the fans supporting RGB and the roof mounted radiator letting the top side of the system look as bright as the lower side.
Speaking of the lower side it’s worth mentioning that the Helios case covers the power supply and many cables well, letting the bottom half of your system look neat and tidy in the one area that it’s nearly impossible to keep clean lines on. With the cut-out perfectly matching up to the power display of the ASUS ROG Thor PSU there is just as much for the detail obsessed as there is for those who just like the pretty colours. Additionally the Helios is very flexible when it comes to how you can mount your GPU. We’ve often mentioned how much design work goes into the fan side of a graphics card that it seems a shame you only see the backplate, but with the flat mounting you can show off the shroud as much as you wish, and the Strix RX 5700 XT is worth showing off thanks to the attractive angles and subtle but effective lighting.
Lastly performance is exactly what you would expect from such a high quality set of components. The Ryzen 7 3800X provides 4.4 GHz of sixteen thread calculation heft, backed up by the fast G.Skill Trident Royal memory kit and blistering MP510 Corsair M.2 drive. When you add the RX 5700 XT Strix OC – the most powerful Radeon card around at the moment – then you will not be left twiddling your thumbs waiting for a part of the system to catch up, nor bemoaning slovenly performance in any task you as of it.
