Gigabyte next-gen motherboard PCB leak confirms Z890 naming and Intel “Core Ultra” CPU plans
At Computex 2024, we saw a range of next-generation Intel motherboards. This included a new ROG Maximus Hero design. None of the companies at the event were able to confirm the name of Intel’s new motherboard chipset. Even so, it was clear to us that this was Z890. Now, thanks to a leaked Gigabyte PCB image, it is now clear that Intel’s new chipset is indeed called Z890. Beyond that, it is now clear that Z890 motherboards will support new “Intel Core Ultra” series processors.
Intel plans to release their next-generation Arrow Lake CPUs this year. Now it is clear that these CPUs will be the first socketed Desktop CPUs to utilise Intel’s “Core Ultra” branding. With Arrow Lake, Intel will be transitioning to new E-core and P-core designs, promising major performance increases over today’s Rocket Lake CPU cores.
Recent leaks have suggested that Arrow Lake could be released as early as October 2024. LGA1851 socket diagram leaks have also confirmed that Intel’s new Z890 motherboard platform will support more PCIe 5.0 connectivity. Additionally, this platform will also support DDR5 memory exclusively.

The above motherboard PCB is for Gigabyte’s Z890 Aorus Pro ICE motherboard. This motherboard appears to be a prototype, as Gigabyte’s Aorus ICE series motherboards typically feature white PCBs.
