MSI confirms its AMD 800-series AM5 motherboards are “future CPU ready”

It looks like AMD’s 800-series motherboards will support AMD’s next-gen Zen 6 CPUs

In the company’s Discord channel, an MSI representative has confirmed that the company’s current-generation 800-series AM5 motherboards will support next-generation AMD Ryzen CPUs. Specifically, it was stated that 800-series AMD AM5 motherboards “will be future CPU ready”.

AMD is due to launch its next-generation Zen 6 CPUs next year. These CPUs are reportedly equipped with a suite of hardware upgrades. including a new chiplet interconnect, 2nm silicon, and much higher clock speeds.

MSI has recently unveiled a range of new “MAX” series 800-series AM5 motherboards. We’ve recently reviewed MSI’s MAG X870E Tomahawk Max WIFI PZ motherboard, and based on MSI Jason’s comments, this motherboard is ready for AMD’s next-generation processors.

Zen 6 support on AM5 is not unexpected. AMD’s AM4 motherboard platform lasted the entire lifespan of DDR4 memory. It supports Zen, Zen+, Zen 3, and Zen 3 CPUs. That’s four generations of CPU support. With AM5, AMD is expected to support their socket until the end of the DDR5 era. In other words, we don’t expect to see AM6 motherboards until the release of DDR6 memory.

Rumour has it that AMD is currently considering Zen 7 CPU support on AM5. If this is true, AMD’s AM5 platform will support four generations of Zen processors.
