Nvidia issues “GeForce Security Update” for its Maxwell and Pascal GPUs

Nvidia releases “GeForce Security Update” for its classic GPUs

Last year, Nvidia ended its “Game Ready” driver support for its Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta series GPUs. This week, Nvidia released its first “GeForce Security Update” for its classic gaming GPUs, including the Pascal GTX 1080 Ti. This is Nvidia’s GeForce Security Driver 582.28 WHQL.

NVIDIA has released a software security update display driver for Maxwell, Volta, and Pascal-series GeForce GPUs which are no longer supported by Game Ready Drivers. This update addresses multiple issues that may lead to security impacts.

What did this driver fix?

Sadly, Nvidia’s release notes for this driver do not list the issues that this new driver addresses. However, Nvidia’s newest “Security Bulletin” lists a range of high-severity vulnerabilities within Nvidia’s display drivers. These are likely what Nvidia has addressed with its new Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta drivers. As always, we are disappointed that Nvidia does not list fixed security vulnerabilities in its official driver release notes.

Below are the GPUs that are supported by Nvidia’s new GeForce Security Update. Newer Nvidia GPU users should update to the newest drivers available to address these vulnerabilities.
