AMD teases its “next FSR update”
AMD teases its next version of FSR as Sony unveils its “upgraded” version of PSSR
Following Sony’s unveiling of its upgraded PSSR upscaler for PlayStation 5 Pro, AMD’s Jack Huynh has teased the company’s “next FSR update”. This teaser comes one day after the leak of FSR 4.1, an enhanced version of FSR 4 with improved image quality.
Sony’s new version of PSSR was made possible by AMD’s collaboration with PlayStation on Project Amethyst. Through co-innovation, AMD and PlayStation are working together to improve the visual fidelity of future games. Because of this, Sony’s PSSR and AMD’s FSR 4 are related. In fact, Sony claims that their new version of PSSR now uses the “very latest of this co-developed technology with a further six months of refinement for PS5 Pro”. If this is true, Sony’s new PSSR could be ahead of FSR 4 in some aspects.
Clearly, AMD has a new version of FSR 4 in the works. Gamers should expect improved image quality over FSR 4. Furthermore, gamers should expect all FSR 4 games to upgrade to AMD’s new FSR versions though the company’s “FSR Upgrade” driver feature.
Grateful for the shared vision with @cerny on Project Amethyst.
Through deep co-engineering between @PlayStation and @AMD, we’re seeing that vision power the PlayStation 5 Pro, delivering higher resolution, higher frame rates, and beautiful visual fidelity for gamers.
With continued co-innovation, we’re helping architect the next era of real-time graphics together.
And we’re just getting started. Stay tuned for our next FSR update, bringing these advancements to more players worldwide.
Thank you @cerny and the entire Sony team for the trust, vision, and partnership!

With PSSR and FSR 4 being co-developed by Sony PlayStation and AMD, it makes sense for AMD to launch a new version of FSR after Sony’s PSSR update. If this collaboration continues, we should expect further improvements to Sony/AMD’s AI upscaling technologies. Ultimately, this is great news for gamers. After all, these improvements will result in better-looking games on both PC and PlayStation consoles.
