AMD confirms Ryzen 5 9600X3D gaming CPU with 3D V-Cache

It looks like AMD’s planning to launch its Ryzen 5 9600X3D CPU soon

AMD’s got a new 3D V-Cache enhanced Ryzen 9000 series gaming CPU on the horizon. As part of a recent AMD/Radeon Software update (via MelodicWarrior), AMD has unveiled its Ryzen 5 9600X3D CPU, a successor to AMD’s Ryzen 5 7600X3D.

Essentially, this new CPU is an enhanced version of AMD’s Ryzen 5 9600X, offering gamers more L3 cache to deliver improved performance characteristics. With 96MB of L3 cache instead of 32MB, this new V-Cache enhanced CPU can store more data on-chip. This can accelerate many workloads, with gaming workloads being a primary beneficiary.

With more cache on-chip, AMD’s Ryzen 9000 X3D gaming CPUs need to spend less time waiting for data on system memory. This enables a notable boost in framerates in most games. However, more and more PC games are recommending 8-core CPUs, making us question if this new 6-core CPU will be optimal for future games. Borderlands 4 specifically recommends CPUs with 8+ cores.

AMD has released 6-core X3D CPUs in the past. However, these CPUs, the Ryzen 5 5600X3D and Ryzen 5 7600X3D, have only been available in limited quantities from specific retailers. The same could be true for AMD’s Ryzen 5 9600X3D.
