MSI enables “future CPU support” with AMD AM5 motherboard BIOS updates
New BIOS update adds “future CPU” support to AMD AM5 motherboards
MSI has started rolling out AGESA 1.2.0.3E updates for its 800-series AM5 motherboards, adding DDR5 memory optimisations and “future CPU support”. Thanks to this update, MSI AM5 motherboard users will have an easier time supporting 256GB (4x64GB) DDR5 memory configurations. These updates were first spotted by chi11eddog on Twitter/X.
Currently, it is unknown what is meant by “future CPU.” Does AMD plan to release Ryzen 9000G series APUs? Or does AMD plan to release refreshed versions or new steppings of its existing Ryzen 9000 series CPUs? Could a higher speed Ryzen 9000 XT series be on the horizon?
MSI is rolling out new AGESA 1.2.0.3e BIOS for X870/B850 mobos. New BIOS comes with optimization for Hynix/Micron/Samung-chip 256GB (64GB x4) memory, and future CPU support.

With MSI releasing new BIOS updates with “future CPU” support, it is likely that other motherboard manufacturers will soon follow suit. This will pave the way towards new AMD CPU launches on AM5. That said, it remains unclear what AMD has planned for AM5 in the near term.
AMD has confirmed that it plans to support its AM5 motherboard platform until 2027 “and beyond”. This means that AMD plans to launch AM5 processors well into the future. We expect AMD’s to support Zen 6 CPU on their AM5 platform. However, it is likely too early for AMD to be adding support for Zen 6 processors to AM5.
