AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 42% faster than RX 7900 GRE at 4K
Leaked gaming data highlights impressive gains from AMD’s RDNA 4 graphics architecture
Videocardz has gotten their hands on pre-reveal information about AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 series GPUs. This includes gaming data for AMD’s upcoming RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards. Specifically, this data details how fast these GPUs are compared with AMD’s last-generation Radeon RX 7900 GRE.
AMD claims that AMD’s RX 9070 XT is 42% faster on average than their RX 7900 GRE. This data was gathered across 30+ games, which included games with and without ray-tracing support.
Based on leaked specifications for AMD’s RX 9070 XT, the GPU has 64 compute units. AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 GRE has 80 Compute Units. To achieve 42% faster gaming performance, AMD has delivered an insane level of per-CU performance increases. As such, RDNA 4 could be considered one of AMD’s largest architectural advancements to date.

Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT performance gains
Below, we have performance numbers for AMD’s RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. Both GPUs are faster than AMD’s RX 7900 GRE in all listed games. Note that AMD’s performance gains are largest at 4K. Furthermore, note that the largest performance gains can be seen in titles that utilise ray tracing.
In F1 24, the RX 9070 XT is 23% faster than the RX 7900 GRE. With ray tracing enabled, this GPU is 66% faster. Clearly, AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture excels when it comes to ray tracing.

AMD isn’t targeting the ultra-high-end GPU market with its Radeon RX 9070 series GPUs. Regardless, it looks like AMD has some impressive GPU offerings. RDNA 4 is a powerful GPU architecture, so much so that we wonder what a “BIG” RDNA 4 GPU would look like.
