AMD reportedly considers RX 9060 XT 8GB cancellation
AMD has reportedly considered cancelling its 8GB RX 9060 XT GPU model
If recent rumours are to be believed, AMD plans to launch a new RDNA 4 graphics card next month. This GPU is AMD’s RX 9060 XT and may be launching at Computex 2025. Recently leaked specifications for the GPU have landed, revealing planned 8GB and 16GB models for the graphics card. Now, it looks like AMD has considered cancelling the 8GB variant, following the backlash against Nvidia’s 8GB RTX 5060 Ti.
Simply put, 8GB of VRAM isn’t enough for many modern PC games. One reviewer called Nvidia’s 8GB RTX 5060 Ti “instantly obsolete” after comparing the GPU to its 16GB counterpart. AMD have undoubtedly seen this backlash and is considering its options.
An “AMD Partner” has reportedly told Moore’s Law is Dead that AMD has considered cancelling its 8GB RX 9060 XT model.”At a minimum,” AMD has reportedly reduced or halted production of its 8GB GPU model. If AMD launches its 8GB model, it may phase it out very quickly.
AMD knows an 8GB RX 9060 XT will have problems with some modern games
Clearly, AMD knows that the 8GB variant of its RX 9060 XT will not review well. There is also a claim that AMD will save 8GB for a “much cheaper RX 9050 XT” GPU, which should launch later this year. Below are previously leaked specifications for AMD’s RX 9060 XT.

If AMD cancels its 8GB RX 9060 XT, it would probably be a good thing for the PC market. When playing modern games with 8GB GPUs, stuttering is more frequent, and performance is often worse than an equivalent GPU with more VRAM.
This week, we have been testing The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered, and it has performance issues when played on 8GB GPUs. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is another example of a game that doesn’t run well on 8GB graphics cards. This list of games where 8GB isn’t enough will grow over time, and that will make 8GB GPUs unsuitable for many gamers.
