Nintendo Switch 2 is launching in June – Here’s what you need to know
– Update – Nintendo has revealed the pricing of their Switch 2 console.
Nintendo has finally showcased its Switch 2 console and revealed its release date. The new console will be arriving on June 7th, much earlier than many gamers expected.
Sadly, Nintendo has not released pricing information for the new handheld. However, we have several newly confirmed hardware specifications and features. For starters, the console features new chat functions alongside a “C-button”. Furthermore, the system features a larger 7.9-inch screen.
With Switch 2, gamers can enjoy higher resolution gaming experiences thanks to its 1080p resolution. Furthermore, the system’s screen is 120Hz and supports HDR. This means that many games will be playable with higher framerates. This change should also boost the popularity of HDR amongst game developers.
In docked mode, the Switch 2 will support resolutions of up to 4K at 60 FPS. However, higher refresh rates can be supported at lower resolutions. Note that the Switch 2’s dock features an integrated fan, which increases the cooling potential of the system, enabling higher levels of system performance in docked mode.
Faster storage on Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo has also noted that standard MicroSD cards will not be supported by Switch 3. Switch 2 requires MicroSD Express cards, as Switch 2 games will require higher levels of storage performance. This is good news for Switch 2 users, as this means that games will load faster on the console, and is built with faster storage in mind.
By default, the Switch 2 will feature 256GB of integrated storage.
Switch 2 game cartridges will be the same size as Switch carts. The only difference is that they are red and that they contain faster storage chips. This will enable faster loading times on Nintendo’s new consoles.
Some Switch 1 games will receive Switch 2 upgrades, though these upgrades will be paid add-ons for Switch 2 players. This means that Switch users should not expect free Switch 2 upgrades for their games. However, Switch 2 will be compatible with most Switch games as-is.
