Lexar launches its first 1TB MicroSD Express card for Nintendo’s Switch 2
Nintendo’s Switch 2 is already transforming the MicroSD card market, with Lexar launching a 1TB MicroSD Express card
Lexar has started shipping what it calls the “world’s first 1 TB MicroSD Express Card,” which delivers high read/write performance on Nintendo’s Switch 2 and other compatible devices.
With up to 900 MB/s read speeds and 600 MB/s write speeds, Lexar’s new PLAY PRO MicroSD Express cards are insanely fast. This fingernail-sized storage card delivers SSD-like performance thanks to the MicroSD Express standard’s NVMe protocols and PCIe 3.0 x1 connectivity.
Thanks to its storage capacity of up to 1TB, Lexar’s new MicroSD Express cards are perfect for gamers. It delivers the speeds needed to play Switch 2 games and the capacity that’s needed to store a lot of them. These storage cards are perfect for Nintendo’s new gaming handheld.
Nintendo is forcing MicroSD Express adoption
The MicroSD Express standard has existed since 2019. Thanks to Nintendo’s Switch 2 console, this standard is now being forced into mass adoption. Until now, almost no retailers differentiated between MicroSD Express and traditional MicroSD cards. Now, they will be forced to do so thanks to their boosted popularity.
Following the launch of Switch 2, we expect to see MicroSD Express support to be adopted by more devices. This will see the standard’s popularity grow further. After all, the benefits of MicroSD Express are obvious, and Nintendo’s support for the standard should make these MicroSD cards more commonly available. That’s good news for the storage market as a whole, and for those who are sick of the slow speeds of traditional MicroSD cards.
The Lexar PLAY PRO microSDXC Express Card is now available in the US with the following MSRPs. The 1 TB model has an MSRP of $199.99. For 512 GB, the MSRP is $99.99. Lastly, the 256 GB model has an MSRP of $49.99.
