Corsair Void Pro RGB Headset Review

Conclusion

It’s been a couple of years since we first had a Corsair Void headset appear in the office. At the time we had the wireless variant and found it to be excellent in build quality, sound quality and comfort. In fact the only negatives we had were that it leaked a lot of sound to the surroundings and the battery life was good but not spectacular.

We mentioned at the time that the new Corsair Gaming range – of which the Void was one – that replaced their Vengeance range really brought their headset selection bang up to date.

With the new Void Pro RGB here in its USB guise, we’re somewhat at a loss as to why this exists. Now don’t for a moment think that we’re saying it’s bad, it isn’t. In fact it’s excellent. What we don’t understand is that the design is identical to the existing Void, the sound quality is as fantastic as it was then, the microphone is just as capable, the headset just as comfortable, the build quality just as robust. If we didn’t know that this was a new product we’d think they’d accidentally sent us the one from 2015 again, because we can’t spot the difference beyond this being the wired variant.

Sound quality is very much the star of the show here. With a closed back design you usually get tighter bass at the expense of a sense of space, but the Void Pro manages to give both a firm taut bottom and enough separation of the frequencies to really bring an airy quality to proceedings. Whether you like Dubstep or Wine Glass Orchestras, you’ll be happy with how high the fidelity of the audio reproduction is. The microphone also does well, having none of the problems with the plosives that can plague lower quality offerings.

Comfort is also up to a high standard. The headband and the ear cups are both heavily padded which combine perfectly with the low weight of the Void Pro to give a headset you can wear for hours without fatigue. Indeed the ear pieces provide the only slight negative we have, which is very much a matter of personal taste. I like a headset which grips the head a little bit, but the ear pieces on the Void Pro almost feel loose as if they are slightly angled out at the bottom. However, if you despise headsets which feel clamped to your ears then you’ll love this. It does mean that more sound leaks out than we’d like, so don’t use the Void to listen to anything you aren’t comfortable with the rest of the room hearing.

All of which makes the conclusion simplicity itself. If you’re in the market for a headset, we highly recommend the Corsair Void Pro. It’s as brilliant as its ever been.
