Roccat Renga Headset Review

Conclusion

The Roccat Renga are one of those great products which does everything well and is better than you might expect given its pricing.

It doesn’t make for the worlds most interesting conclusion to read. There are no surprise bits of genius, but neither is any element of it awful. It’s one of those headsets which is supremely well rounded and wont disappoint nor make you whoop with delight. Build quality is up to Roccat’s usual high standards. They always produce hardware which can survive the most demanding users and the Renga is no exception. High quality plastics are found wherever you look and the headband/hinges, so often a weak point in the more affordable headset options, are well designed and guaranteed to last as long as the headset.

The sound fidelity is, once again, very good. The drivers are 50mm offerings with a frequency response of 20Hz-20kHz, something we’ve seen on nearly every headset since the dawn of time. With good reason too as it seems to be the perfect balance between sound quality and comfort. After all, a gigantic HiFi-esque speaker would be great sound quality but hardly portable, and yet nobody has ever prostrated themselves before the might of their earbud sound excellence. The open-backed nature of the Renga gives the sound a nice airy feel without compromising the tightness of the bass. No, it wont give you the kind of bass which can change your heatbeat rhythm, but as we’ve said before these are a well-rounded headset and too often ones which commit to monster bass sacrifice everything else. The midrange is where the Renga shines the most, with a broad spectrum of sounds and all of them easily distinguishable. There is a clarity here which has to be admired.

If you’re in the market for a headset which does everything you could ask of it without breaking the bank, then the Roccat Regna should be high up on your list. They’re comfortable to wear for long periods, built well, the sound quality is very good and with the adaptor they are just at home on your Playstation 4 as they are in your PC. Sometimes just doing all the basic things well without having a flaw in your armour is enough to be worthy of applauding and the Roccat Regna wins our OC3D Gamers Choice award.
