Conclusion
The PC cooling market may be becoming ever more dominated by the AIO, but that’s not to say there’s no place for a decent traditional tower air cooler. If there wasn’t, people wouldn’t buy them, and companies would stop making them. Taking the ever popular Hyper 212 as their inspiration, CoolerMaster have just released the brand spanking new MasterAir 620P. For a twin stack, twin 120m fan cooler it’s pretty compact, measuring just 164mm in height. It is though quite deep with the front fan overhanging the RAM slots so you’ll have to be fairly selective when selecting RAM to go with it. Aside from being a well made, and high quality cooler, the MA620P does have a trick up its sleeve in that both of the fans are fully RGB enabled, and via the use of a discrete controller can be made to move between a whole host of colours and effects, or simply stay static on the colour of your choice.
Although the instructions are clear and concise, fitting the MA620P was not a pleasant experience as the method selected by CoolerMaster required us to remove the RAM and the GPU in order to tighten the bolts down. If you’re doing a fresh build this isn’t much of a biggy, but you’ll be really hacked off if you fit everything and then discover you’ve got to take half of it back out in order to fit the cooler.
In use the MA620P was extremely quite, coming just one place off the top spot in our observed noise charts. This low nose level though does seem to come at a price, and that price is performance. Now, don’t get us wrong, it’s not that the MA620P performs badly, it doesn’t, what we’re trying to say is you’re not going to get the performance of a loud cooler from a quiet cooler, in fact, in this instance, the 620P does so well despite the outright performance that it’s a trade we’d be willing to make in favour of some peace and quiet.
All in all, it’s mighty fine little twin stack cooler, so if you’re looking for some quiet bling then you need to look at the MA620PÂ
