Corsair ICue 7000X RGB Case and H170i Elite Capellix Review
Up Close – Fine Details
We’re going to cover all of the problems we have with the case as we move through this page, so perhaps you can play a little game with yourself. Stop scrolling. Look at the picture below. See if you can spot the things that we’d struggle to live with. We’ll give you the fact the H170i Elite Capellix is currently only available in black as your starter for ten.
Why yes, you can see the front of the drive cage through the front window. Nope, we don’t know why either. Maybe it’s to push a tiny bit of air through those couple of slots to help keep your drives half a degree cooler than they’d otherwise be. If you like a sleek look at the front it’s going to drive you crazy.
This is comfortably the most irritating thing about the iCUE 7000X case, and started us down a long road of spotting things that absolutely should’ve been picked up in the prototyping phase. That middle portion looks like it’s designed to be cut out, but it hasn’t been. Whilst there are rubber grommets under the flap to the right of the motherboard, there are none at the top. So you’re left with a solution which is both ugly and forces you to stretch cables here and there. Very annoying. It’s almost like Corsair expect you to run a push pull radiator where all of this is covered up. It isn’t though. Ugh.
If, like us, you like everything to fit neatly and leave no unexplained gaps then this shot will probably get your hackles up. The designers went to all the efforts of provided plentiful coverage, then didn’t bother to actually finish it off. You don’t see us starting a sente
If the design of the top cutouts was replicated down the bottom then Corsair could make the “design” defence work. When the bottom has three, ungrommeted, places for your cabling it’s even more frustrating that the top side is so miserly.
Should you like to mount your GPU vertically via a riser cable then the 7000X is all ready for you, even with a triple wide GPU. Unlike the top there are plenty of holes down the bottom for running your cables, as well as lots of ventilation space.
Lastly the back side of the case will be very familiar to anyone who has already looked at the Corsair 5000X. A hinged door, plenty of placed to put things and even more places to cable tie everything tight should let the neat freak in you fly their flag proudly. We still wish that middle panel was opened out though.
