Fractal Modding Competition
Fractal Solo by K1lbane
To finish we shall have a look at my build. Again it is a themed build. Using the recent release of both the new Star Wars film and Battlefront game as inspiration for the build.
The build focuses on two main parts, the Star Wars imagery and the custom water cooling loop. Starting with the front of the case we can see a moulded 3D relief of Han Solo in “Carbonite”. This was then painted to help achieve a much deeper 3D effect. Resin moulding is a great way to achieve depth and also great at keeping detail that would otherwise be time consuming to replicate.
The side panel was laser etched with a technical drawing of the Millennium Falcon. Although this same thing could be achieved with “etch effect” vinyl, by etching into the side panel, the etching itself will capture the light and glow. Further laser etching was done at the bottom of the panel to engrave the company logos into the case without being overly prominent and distracting from the other details.
So the other main focus was the water cooling loop. The Kelvin series of AIO’s are marketed as “expandable”. So in true modding style, it was pushed to see how far it would in fact expand by changing out the fittings and adding a second radiator, a reservoir, GPU block and custom tubing. With that amount in a loop, a dedicated pump would normally be used. The Kelvin AIO pump was in fact able to take on the role and perform admirably while keeping the temperatures to a minimum.
So that’s the five builds looked at, time to move on to a conclusion.
