Fractal Modding Competition
Starting with Rescue 1, sfelock’s firefighter themed build was all about the colour scheme. This can often be very restrictive when you start to consider hardware. Which, if we are honest about it, has ultimately lead to a vast majority of builds recently being the same colour scheme. Luckily for us, manufacturers are now increasing the range of colours available to the modding community and including RGB lighting to allow for better integration in to any system.
Choosing the right colours for such a build is more important than you think. Not all colours work well together, more importantly, to achieve a strong impact, contrast is highly important. Sfelock discovered this early on, which is a good thing. Nothing worse than doing the final build to discover that something doesn’t work, whether it be hardware or a part of the build itself. As shown in this build, trying to match a colour can often cause more trouble than it is worth, especially when it is not a main feature colour of the build. More often than not, less is in fact more.
Sfelock has gone on to change the entire case colour to suit his theme. There is a lot to consider when it comes to spraying anything to change its colour. Spray painting is both time consuming yet rewarding when done well. The build goes to show that if the parts are not available in the colour scheme you want, simply take your time and most items can easily have their colour changed. Remember to be sensible with what you choose to spray as not all things are suited to this e.g motherboards.
Sfelock went on to finish with a custom PSU shroud made from acrylic and a custom SSD mount. In my opinion, PSU shrouds can really set a build apart from others. This build is a prime example of how adding to what is there can really help make a case look clean and tidy. Acrylic is a medium that is relatively easy to work with, yet can take time and effort to really get the finish looking professional. All too often too much is added to builds, often leading to a cluttered and untidy build.
Well done Sfelock, I almost forgot to mention the cables, custom sleeved and tidy. Always a winner!
