HYTE Y40 PC Case Review

Vertical GPU support

The HYTE Y40 is both the smaller, more affordable sibling of the Y60 and an improved overall design. HYTE learned some lessons with their Y60, and a lot of feedback has been incorporated into the Y40 as a result of this. The first of these feedback-prompted changes is the Y40’s increased GPU clearance, with the HYTE Y40 supporting 4-slot graphics cards where the Y60 only supported three-slot graphics cards.

Modern GPUs are now larger and thicker than their older counterparts, especially if you are buying something high-end like an RTX 4090. Triple-slot graphics cards are now commonplace, and now some graphics cards are weighing in at almost four slots.

With the Y40, HYTE are offering PC builders support for larger, thicker graphics cards before the location of their side panel window becomes an issue. With HYTE’s new Y40 design, users are guaranteed to have 20mm of additional GPU clearance than their older Y60 design.

HYTE Y40 PC Case Review How to get optimal thermals with the HYTE Y40

Below is what HYTE calls the ideal thermal setup for their Y40 chassis, with the case’s side panel fans pushing air into the chassis while the case’s top and rear fans blow air out of the enclosure.

GPU Thermals – Y60 vs Y40

When compared to their older Y60 chassis, HYTE’s new Y40 case can offer gamers lower GPU thermals thanks to the case’s additional side panel clearance. This change also results in lower system noise levels, as GPUs are not only cooler running, but they also run with lower fans speeds.

HYTE Y40 PC Case Review Other differences between the HYTE Y60 and the HYTE Y40

Below we can see that the HYTE Y40 is a smaller overall case design than the Y60, but that the Y40 can contain much of the same hardware. The Y40 supports larger GPUs and CPU coolers, but the Y60 can support larger EATX motherboards and has more space for HDD/SSD mounting.
