MATX Love – Corsair 2800X RS-R ARGB PC Case Review
Conclusion & Video Review
The Corsair 2800X RS-R ARGB is a solid case, especially for the price
For £69.99, Corsair’s 2800X RS-R ARGB is a bargain. If I were to try and buy this case’s fans alone (3x Corsair RS-R ARGB 120mm fans), they would cost £30-40 depending on your chosen retailer. These aren’t bargain-basement fans, and the PC case’s other aspects don’t feel cheap either.
Honestly, the only criticism that can be levelled at this case is that it isn’t much smaller than some of the more compact ATX PC cases on the market. The reason for this is simple. MATX motherboards are 244mm long, and ATX motherboards are 305mm long. That’s a 61mm difference. While this case is small, it isn’t that small. That said, you can only get smaller than this with a MATX case if you’re willing to use an unorthodox case layout and atypical hardware positioning. Using an SFX PSU would also help reduce size. This is not the avenue Corsair took with its 2800X.
What we have here is a smaller version of the Corsair 3500X (see our review of that case here). Its standard case layout makes PC builds relatively simple, and its support for ATX PSUs and 360mm liquid-cooling radiators simplifies component selection. It’s not the most compact MATX case available, but its affordable and incredibly easy to use.
The 2800X is a bargain at £69.99
With RAM storage prices being inflated, the Corsair 2800X is arriving at a good time for the PC market. This case is shockingly affordable, making it a great choice for budget PC builds. The case is well-built, ships with a decent number of fans, and supports large GPUs. That said, we would advise PC builders to select MATX motherboards that place their PCIe x16 slot higher (to use the case’s top PCIe slot), as this will maximise GPU breathing space inside this chassis.
Corsair has managed to deliver the 2800X for £69.99 without making the case feel cheap. The case is sturdy, well thought out, and has an excellent aesthetic. You can’t ask for more than that, especially at this price. For this reason, we have given Corsair’s 2800X RS-R ARGB PC case OC3D’s Value for Money Award.
