TRYX TURRIS 620 CPU Cooler Review

Conclusion

Is the TRYX TURRIS a good CPU cooler?

If all you are looking for is an air-based CPU cooler with a fairly large LCD screen, the TRYX TURRIS is a suitable product. That said, if you are looking for serious air cooling performance, it is best to look elsewhere.

This CPU cooler looks great, and its screen is a neat add-on. That said, for £129.95, we expect much better cooling performance. In Cinebench R24, this cooler failed our thermal test at 1,000 RPM. At higher RPM values, it barely surpassed the Valkyrie’s ultra-affordable Surge SL125. If you add an extra fan to Valkyrie’s single-tower Surge SL125, it bests the TURRIS. That’s not a good result for a £100+ CPU cooler.

To be frank, I expected better from such a premium product. Yes, it is undeniable that the LCD screen on this CPU cooler accounts for most of its cost. Regardless, a premium air cooling solution should deliver strong cooling performance. That’s its primary job. The LCD should be secondary.

Do we recommend this product?

The TRYX TURRIS feels compromised. If its cooling performance were better, it could be recommended. Why are its thermals poor? That’s hard to know. Perhaps TRYX’s fans are to blame? We could conduct testing to find out, but that is out of the scope of this review. Furthermore, is anyone going to buy a £129.95 CPU cooler and then spend even more money upgrading its fans?

The good news is that the newest Intel CPUs aren’t as hot as the 14th-generation Raptor Lake CPU we tested. However, it is worth remembering that we test an old i5-14600K. This CPU is much better suited to newer, more efficient CPUs. It even has an Intel Ultra series offset mount for Arrow Lake users. This is where this CPU cooler finds a more suitable home. Cooler-running CPUs, with an Intel Core Ultra mounting offset to enhance cooling performance.

If you buy this CPU cooler, you are buying it for its screen and its aesthetic. If you are building an ultra-high-end system with hotter-running components, we’d recommend a more substantial CPU cooler. That said, if that’s what you want, TRYX’s STAGE and PANORAMA series coolers exist. Those include screens and offer substantially better CPU cooling performance.
