Overclocking

Naturally when you have this many cores available, the need to overclock it is greatly reduced. Partly because it’s so powerful already, but partly because getting 24 cores to overclock without abusing your cooling solution or finding one core that isn’t so happy to be pushed is asking a lot. However, overclocking all 24 cores is certainly possible and we managed to extract 4.3 GHz from the TR 3960X.

It is worth noting that the new Agesa update which improved the single threaded performance, coupled to the excellence of the prioritised cores and selective turbo work brilliantly at stock and are over-ridden when you manually overclock. Thus in those few tests we have which test the single threaded performance individually will see better results at stock than overclocked.
