AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D Review

Introduction

By now the success of the Ryzen X3D processors is well known. Probably the most famous CPU amongst gaming enthusiasts since the Intel 7700 or E8400s. And if you’re old, the AMD Barton CPUs.

AMD haven’t rested upon their laurels either. Never one to pass up an opportunity, there are X3D models for every need. Just want the gaming boost? We’ve just reviewed the Ryzen 5 7500X3D and it was good. If you need a system that’s a true all rounder then the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D is a beast. For most people the middle models are the sweet spot. The 9700X3D for people who are more gaming focused, and the 9800X3D for those who like a little extra performance in their applications.

What if you want a tiny bit more than that? Enter today’s review, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. It’s fair to say this is stretching the range to breaking point. Just a slightly quicker 9800X3D. Let’s be clear, we’re not averse to more performance or higher speeds. We live for it. It just means if you already own a 9 series X3D processor, this probably isn’t enough to make you run to the shops. We already know the 7800X3D was only incrementally worse than the 9800X3D. Does this do enough to entice?

Perhaps it is going to be the perfect choice for those who want to get on the X3D bandwagon and have been waiting for the sweet spot. Let’s find out.
