The packaging for the Strix is in keeping with its place in the Republic of Gamers range. Half the box is very much the same as we’ve seen on their Z790 Maximus motherboards, but the other half is the purple to pinkish colours that are the current Strix scheme.

ASUS have always chopped and changed the design of their Strix products, and not always to good effect. We still tremble in horror when we recall the glitchy text effect on a lot of their recent products. Thankfully the Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi II has reverted to a more normal design, but not one without its own touches. The chipset heatsink design in particular is bold, but clear. No longer does it only say ROG if you squint.

PCB Overview

The top half of the Strix is purposeful. Big chunky heatsinks, plenty of black plastics, bold logo. It’s everything you could want, without going overboard.

This photo shows off how shiny the ROG logo we spoke of is. It would be perfect for reflecting your RGB lighting colour choice. Some of the Strix motherboards recently have gone with a specific game as their theme, Pacman, Galaxians etc, but the Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi instead just goes with a old-school looking menu on the M.2 cover. If only I could game first and work second.
