Conclusion

Whenever when we’re testing something we always have a few things that we make notes of for our conclusions, whether on the positive or the negative side. The more balanced those two elements are, the longer our conclusions tend to be. Conversely if a product is almost unredeemable in its awfulness then the conclusion is brief, because there is no good to balance the bad.

The ASUS Crosshair VI Extreme is the opposite of that state of affairs. It’s so good, so relentless in its performance, that the conclusion can be brief because there are no asterisks, no caveat emptors, no things you need to take into account.

If you want the best possible platform to extract the maximum from your new Ryzen build then the Crosshair VI Extreme is unquestionably the model you should buy. The stock results, usually so devoid of noticeably good or bad scores, lean towards being the better of the AMD selection in our graphs. Whether this is the quality of the components or the low latency between the CPU and the memory, there is a general trend that the stock performance is better than most. Of course you would hardly buy such a premium product if you didn’t plan on overclocking your CPU and memory.

Should you use the Crosshair VI Extreme to its fullest then you’ll note that the overclocking capabilities are exceptional. The BIOS is easy to use and feature rich, and the quality of the components on the PCB mean that we could get 140MHz more from our Ryzen 7 1800X on the Extreme than we’ve managed on any of the other X370 motherboards we’ve tested. That is not an inconsiderable amount, particularly when you partner it with the beefy DDR4 speeds we obtained. All of which combined to put the Crosshair VI Extreme in first place in nearly all of our graphs, and whenever it wasn’t sitting at the top of the mountain it was usually found in second place breathing down the neck of the leader.

So it performs brilliantly, looks fantastic, is full of monster array of connectivity options and easily crushes the field when it comes to overclocking. There are no issues, no problems, no gaps in its capabilities. If you want the best platform upon which to build an AMD system this is it, and so it easily wins our OC3D Enthusiast Award.
