Test Setup

With an entirely new platform we’ve taken the opportunity to update our test system to include Windows 11. We’ve also got some DDR5 from Corsair in the form of the Dominator Platinum. Plenty of scope to make the new 12th Generation Intel CPUs perform to their best. Just like the ASUS Z690-Plus TUF Gaming D4 tests we’ll be utilising the familiar DDR4 kit that has served us well for so long. We could’ve gone for something ridiculous like a ultra-low CAS, speed binned. 4000+ MHz kit, but we want to stick with the kind of kit that most people will choose. If you’ve got the cash for that RAM you probably aren’t looking to transfer it to your new system, after all.

Clock Speeds

The Strix is pretty good out of the box in stock form, and we’ve also got some AI Overclock results in Cinebench to show you, largely because of the truly insane single thread overclocking it can come up with, its only ever seeing that speed for a split second though and the performance results show this sadly. You can see that in the bottom two images. The multicore AI Overclock isn’t as impressive, so we’re also running with a manual overclock.
