Attention to detail is everywhere. You’ll recall the single 8 pin on the OG, here still white plastics, but back where they belong in the top left.
Fan headers have a similar approach. They are white plastics like the first Crosshair. Where they’ve changed is that they’re all four pin ones. Plus instead of being fired at the PCB with a blunderbuss they’re placed somewhere you can keep your cabling tidy.
The onboard power button is square and silver like it was originally. Given that the ASUS parts bit is a black, domed, circular number then we appreciate the effort.
The NV590SLI Crosshair had two USB ports on a bracket. Thankfully front panel USB is much more capable these days with both Type-A and Type-C available. Don’t forget that under the skin this is basically a Dark Hero.
The SATA ports remain blue, although they have been moved from vertical to horizontal. Yay.
The Crosshair 2006 has an extra USB 2.0 port. You’ve also got more sensibly placed fan headers than the original, and the Addressable RGB that wasn’t even a glint in the milkman’s eye when the first Crosshair was released.
Just look at it. Stacks of copper. It’s breathtaking.
Underneath the “more copper than an episode of The Bill” heatsink beats a 20+2+2 SPS to feed even the Ryzen 9 9950X3D with enough juice to keep it running fast and smooth.
