Introduction

With a new generation of Intel processors on the horizon, naturally the Z790 range of motherboards has seen a refresh. Whereas the technology jump from the Z690 and Z790 was fairly significant with almost universal adoption of USB Type-C, PCI Express 5.0, DDR5 at some incredible speeds and the all-important brisk M.2 tech, the refreshed Z790 motherboards such as the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master X we have here for you today are more of an evolution than a revolution.

We’ve already reviewed and loved the original Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master which you can read about by clicking those words, so we’re already keen to discover what the Master X is bringing to the table. Having seen the white Pro X, the Master X is a bit more of a standard design, running an black aesthetic that, to this writer, is even more gorgeous than the sleek white looks of the Pro X.

Naturally with the next generation of Intel processors following on from their 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th generation, we’re not allowed to tell you what the next version will be called, so elements of the pictures below have been blurred out. We don’t think it’s a mystery along the same lines as where Lord Lucan went, or if King Arthur was real, but it’s one thing for everyone to know something, and another to explicitly mention it. Let’s see what the Master X brings to the party.

Options

As with any new product launch, or perhaps refresh, the Gigabyte Z790 range covers all the bases from insane to affordable. As you can see from this brief overview below, each of the models brings something different to the table. Considering how often we see variations on a theme, we really like how committed Gigabyte have been to making each Z790 motherboard visually distinct.
