i5 11600K vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600X with RTX3080 Gaming Review

If you are someone who games the majority of the time then you’ll be familiar with our credo that you’re better off, to a certain point of course, saving your money on the motherboard and processor and putting it all into your graphics card.

We know that for our testing today we used two high end motherboards on their respective platforms, but it’s worth bearing in mind that when we tested each chipset individually the difference between the top and bottom wasn’t massive. Thus you can go with a mid-range motherboard too alongside the upper midrange Ryzen 5 5600X and Core i5-11600K without negatively impacting your performance.

We’ve given you a lot of data to sift through and your conclusions, and indeed ours, are very much that it almost doesn’t matter which of the two processors and platforms you choose, nor whether you want to overclock them or just run them using the automatic turbo boosting, the actual results won’t be all that different. So if you just wanted to know whether it mattered which direction you went in, then the answer is not really. However, we know that our role isn’t just to speak in generalities but also to focus on the tiny differences. Therefore if you really care about half a frame or so we need to go over that too.

Again, we must mention that the gaps are tiny, except for the stock Ryzen sometimes that lags a little behind the stock Intel. Nonetheless if all you want to do is count scores and pretend that’s a victory for your team the results are as follows. In the overclocked setup the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X beat out the Intel Core i5-11600K 11-4. At stock, despite a couple of results where it was behind by a reasonable chunk, the AMD won out 10-5. Realistically it doesn’t matter which you prefer or which way you want to go, you’ll be happy with either. Buf should you care deeply then the AMD Ryzen 5 is the comfortable victor.

Taking into account price though does muddy the waters a little bit. If you’re truly on a tight budget then the Intel is Â£70 cheaper to buy and that could make all the difference in helping you fit your build within your financial constaints.
