Under the Hood Pt1

Whenever a new product is released it always comes with reams of information about why this particular model has been designed in new and exciting ways to take advantage of obscure things that most of us will never utilise. With graphics cards this is doubly true as there are always so many technologies and features and ways to render things.

However, the Vega has been out for about a week now, so you probably know all that it does if you really want to. Equally we are slaves to performance here at OC3D. We don’t care about why something performs well, merely whether it does. 99% of users buy a new graphics card because they want better in game performance. You don’t plug it an and console yourself with the fact that perhaps in the future some as-yet-undesigned game engine will take advantage of this particular technology to bring you a 5% increase in frame rates compared to the competition. The lifespan of a GPU is so small that by then something new will be out anyway.

So if you want to know what the Vega can do and what is new when compared to Fiji, you can read here and on the next page. For us, we only care about how it performs and that’s what we test.
