EVGA RTX 2080Ti FTW3 Ultra Review

EVGA RTX 2080Ti FTW3 Ultra Review

Introduction

The RTX range of graphics cards supply a huge boost in image quality to the large majority of games thanks to their hardware Ray Tracing capabilities.

If you’ve spent any time playing games you’ll know that the two elements which really allow modern games to look realistic when compared to their predecessors are the higher polygon counts and texture resolution afforded by the huge increases in power which bring more realistic models to our screens, but perhaps most importantly the difference in lighting. Whether god rays – as first seen in the Cryengine titles – or simply dust and warmth of lighting and accurate soft shadows, any older titles don’t remotely compare graphically. Thus including ray tracing capabilities at a hardware level boost even current titles and can make a massive difference in anything designed with them in mind. Just as PhysX bred Havok which took our gaming realism to new heights, so greater fidelity in graphics allow games to wow us cinematically too.

EVGA’s FTW range of cards have long been up amongst the highest performers around, and their latest model, the FTW3 Ultra, is based upon the Turing RTX 2080Ti card and utilises three fans to keep things cool whilst providing some customisation options for those of you who prefer to be a little more hands on.

Technical Specifications

The EVGA iCX cooling provided one of the highlights of our time testing the GTX 1080Ti range of cards, and it’s here in revised form of iCX2 for the RTX 2080Ti FTW3 Ultra. Hopefully it remains as successful here as it was on the previous generation. Otherwise the 1755 MHz boost clock and plentiful power phases should do well in letting the nVidia GPU Boost technology push the card to new heights. Let’s take a look.
