Introduction
The Gainward Golden Sample range has been around from the days when OC3D was just a glint in the milkman’s eye. The name Golden Sample has never completely translated into English. It’s one of those things where we all know what they mean by it, but it doesn’t quite work.
Sensing this, Gainward’s latest pair of graphics cards are under their Phoenix umbrella. We first saw this with the GTX 980 Ti, and whilst there is a slight change in the design, Gainward have kept the main elements of their high-end numbers, namely a beefy cooler working with a heavily overclocked GPU.
Beyond these unique details the underlying Pascal GPU still boasts all the features we’ve seen so far, so you can be sure that there will be fantastic performance allied to excellent power efficiency and a handy performance hike from the GPU Boost 3.0 technology.
Technical Specifications
Both Phoenix cards come with a handy GPU clock boost when compared to their standard counterparts. Keeping everything cool is a 2.5 slot width fan and heatsink combination which combines beefy heatpipes with direct copper contact. However, rather than just describe the cooler, let’s take a look.
