Mafia III Day 1 PC Performance Review

GPU performance – RX 480 VS GTX 1060

With the game forcing a 30FPS limit dedicated performance testing is pretty useless, as there is very little to differentiate GPUs apart from whether thy are enough for a steady 30FPS.

We can see below that the GTX 1060 and RX 480 are easily enough to play this game steadily at max settings at a resolution of 1080p and not quite powerful enough to run at 1440p. With lower settings the game will run steadily at 1440p 30Hz, though the game is reasonably playable with these framerates.

At 4K Mafia III is totally unplayable on both of these GPUs, which is pretty much what we expected. If we follow the general rule that a GTX 1080 is around 2x more powerful than a GTX 1060/RX 480 we can predict that even a GTX 1080 can’t play Mafia III steadily at 4K 30Hz.
