MSI 271QRX QD-OLED Review

The design of the MSI 271QRX is very much in keeping with the majority of monitors out there. It has none of the flashy extra touches that made the MSI MEG 342C such a star. If you’ve never experienced an OLED display before then you might not know their very nature makes them more reflective than regular LED panels. This is usually countered by the image being so much brighter and more colourful that you don’t notice. We’ll find out.
The stand is fully adjustable, ensuring you can situate the monitor wherever is most comfortable. When you spend hours in front of your display it’s vital to have it in the right place.
If the front of the MSI 271QRX OLED monitor lacks a little design flair, then the back leaves us gasping with delight. Fantastic. Okay it’ll be up against the wall all the time, but we still take great pleasure in the blend of textures and large MSI Dragon logo.
It says ‘gaming series’, to save any of you neck ache. One would imagine the primary function of a typeface is to be legible. That’s tested to the nth degree here.
The OSD is controlled by the usual ‘nipple’ and button arrangement. Thankfully, as you’ll see on the next page, the default modes of this can be customised for fast adjustments.
From left to right we have the headphone jack, two HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 360Hz, DisplayPort 1.4a, USB Type-C, B and two Type-A for full connectivity. With 48Gbps and VRR, all the current consoles are supported.
Image Quality
The thing an OLED panel is famous for in full effect. Contrast between deep blacks and extremely bright areas is handled with the minimum of fuss. Zero banding, smearing or any of the negatives elements such a heavily-contrasted image brightness usually has on regular LED panels.
The anti-reflective coating can’t overcome the very nature of OLED panels. Obviously with such a bright light source behind us here this is absolutely a worst case scenario. Those who game in dimly lit rooms will have far fewer issues.
